# Capture and recall

Capture and recall happen in plain language through a [connected agent](https://atmina.ai/docs/connect-your-agent).


## Capture

Ask an agent to save a decision, finding, or note. Give it a useful path when you know one. The agent writes with your access and the action appears in the audit record. Safe-write checks prevent an update from silently replacing a newer version; on conflict, read the latest file and retry deliberately.

## Recall

Ask a question in your connected agent. Atmina searches the permitted bases and returns relevant passages with their source files. Open a source before acting on an important claim. See [search and context](https://atmina.ai/docs/search-and-context) when results are missing or too broad.

Pictures and other media are recalled through their Markdown Companion once its text is indexed. Put important facts in its Notes. A matching result cites the readable Companion and can also identify the Asset, its recorded media facts and a thumbnail address. A stored or previewable image is not necessarily described; **Described** means Atmina has written a generated description and receipt into the Companion.
